This month’s Open Social evening takes place on Saturday 18th February at 7PM.
If you’ve never been to our Social, you’ll find it a great alternative Saturday evening in town. Come in and look around. If you’ve never been in before, we’ll give you the grand tour of the space. Talk to members and visitors about projects or things you’d like to do. Ask about our our new brew room and photography darkroom that we’re getting ready to build. If you like what you see, ask about joining as a full member.
Hopefully there’ll be, caint, ceol agus craic as usual. The space stays open until the last member is left……usually the small hours of Sunday morning. The evening is free to attend for members and visitors alike. No need to book…. just turn up. You can drop in for 10 minutes, or stay the whole night. We have parking available. Bring beer, food, gadgets! Our doors are open from 7PM. Hope to see you there.
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Putilov Strike of 1917 and the ensuing Russian revolution, telekommunisten is organizing a day of political workshops, culminating with a delegates’ assembly on Saturday February 18th at the ver.di labour union headquarters in Berlin.
This will be followed by a commemorative celebration at c-base Space Station.
Join us for a leadership workshop focusing on Counterpolitics, Technological Disobedience and Queering Communism.
The Workshop will be hosted by Dmytri Kleiner and Baruch Gottlieb, with presentations and facilitation by Ewa Majewska, Zeljko Blace, Daniel B. Tirado, Gavin Mendel Gleeson, Seda Gurses, and Diana McCarty.
Workshop participants will develop political vision and prepare for delivering rousing speeches at the delegate assembly.
100 years after Russian Revolution, we find ourselves at a critical political crossroads. After decades of neoliberal, austerity politics, perpetual war and economic crisis, people are ready for a contemporary political vision for this century. Come and share your vision! We want to hear from you!

On Safer Internet Day, TOG members share some tips on how to stay safe online. Please share this with anyone you think will find it useful.
First, don’t send text messages, use Signal instead. Signal is an open source project that lets you send encrypted messages to other Signal users. It replaces your SMS app so you can use it for encrypted and regular messages.
You can encrypt your emails using a technique called PGP. The following video explains how this works, but you don’t need to know this to use it.
It is important to note that the text of that message is encrypted. Any attachments and the fact that you send the message are not encrypted.
HTTPS encrypts the connection between your browser and the site you want to connect to. You should always check if HTTPS is in place before entering personal information like addresses or credit card numbers.
You can install the HTTPS Everywhere extension, which will automatically make your connection secure if the site you are connecting to uses https.
Use a different password for every site you use. This can be difficult, but if one password is compromised, all the others remain secure.
uBlock Origin or other ad blockers can help speed up your browsing, but it can also help hide your identity.
The Onion Router, TOR Project, is a fully encrypted browser. It uses 3 layers of encryption to hide your traffic. This can be overkill for some users and there are ways to break the encryption, but it is a useful project.
Most email providers and social networks support two-factor login. This means to log in you need your password and a code sent to your phone. It is always helpful to check your security settings.
Got a tool you think is useful? How do you stay safe on the Internet? Leave any ideas or questions in the comments and check out upcoming TOG Events.
